South Workshop

To help the Region of Waterloo manage the challenging task of recycling and waste for the region, this building serves two primary functions: workshop areas for the maintenance of heavy vehicles associated with the landfill and waste transfer stations as well as offices and amenity areas for landfill personnel. The workshop areas and wash bay are to the rear of the site and are contained with a high bay precast concrete structure. The offices, change areas, and lunchroom areas are located within a lower glass and concrete volume.

In keeping with regional policy, this project achieved LEED® Silver NC (New Construction) certification. Sustainability features include high reflectance roofing, bicycle storage and changing rooms, water use reduction and reuse strategies, energy use reduction and optimization, construction waste diversion, low emission products, and many other green initiatives.
